そこで、同園では今年度、新しい放飼場の建設に着手し、来年度までに１４億円を投じて現在の３倍に拡張。屋内飼育舎も２階建ての“豪邸”に建て替える。目玉はプール壁面のガラス化による行動展示で、隣接するアザラシなど海獣用のプールとの境界を一部ガラスだけで仕切る構造。「遊泳する姿だけでなく、迫力ある海獣狩りが間近で見られる初の施設」と関係者は自信を見せる。
