ジェイソンは1992年12月8日イギリスのメルトン動物園生まれ。
1994年7月6日に浜松市動物園に引っ越してきた。
体長は2.5メートル、体重は推定300キロ。
メスのバフィンとの間には4回子グマが生まれたものの、育ったなかったのだそうです。
約1カ月前から調子が悪く、左の後足からけがによる出血があり、下痢や嘔吐をし始め、
1週間前からは吐血を繰り返すように。
死因は腎不全とみられ、ここ最近は数年は肝臓も悪くしていたということ。
人間も動物も、年を取ると臓器が悪くなりますね…
浜松市動物園では、10〜24日の間、獣舎近くに献花台を設置するそうです。
イケメンでファンも多かったとか…。残念です。バフィンも寂しかろう。
